G, Day Substack Community
I’m David, an amateur hand tool woodworker from Perth in Western Australia, working from my tiny 2m x 3m workshop next to our garage, as my wife still thinks cars belong in there. (I am working on that :-) )
I am also a father of 3 sons, a husband to a beautiful, tolerant wife and the joint CEO of our software company. I love to work with hand tools, as working my life is 100% digital, and I crave the quiet, analog, tactile time I have in my workshop creating with wood.
Why start a blog now
To quote a Chinese proverb: “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is today.”
I am launching this space to share my experiences, insights, learnings and journey as an amateur woodworker. I have traditionally aimed to learn and connect to the woodworking community through Instagram and YouTube. I’m finding this a shallow experience and have turned my finite attention to quality authors producing long form articulate content via books & substack.
Like many full-time working amateurs, I find it challenging to find time to network and learn face-to-face with other woodworkers, so hear I am. Plus, I live in the most isolated capital city in the world.
What to expect from me
I don’t know yet. I aim to share my thoughts, insights, woodworking projects and learning. I enjoy engaging in constructive conversations where we can all learn & grow.
I am not a professional writer, yet I love clear, concise writing. I will also aim to make it so. A couple of woodworking writers I follow and admire are:
&I will strive to post once per week.
So to quote a friend of mine “Were not here to put socks on centipedes, so lets get on with it”
Thanks for reading
Cheers

Looking forward to it :-)
